It’s illegal to wash your car on the street or driveway in Vancouver!
You could be slapped with a bylaw fine of up to $375!
Washing your car on the street or on your paved private driveway is actually illegal because the soap and grease runoff gets washed into curb drains and pollutes waterways, according to the City of Vancouver.
Section (68) of the Street and Traffic Bylaw prohibits greasing or repairing vehicles on any street, except for repairs necessitated by an emergency. This includes home car washes. People who break the bylaw could face penalties of up to $375.
